A wiper works together with a rod seal: it strips dust, sand and paint before abrasive reaches the working lip. Each part has its own task and compound.
The cuff holds oil inside the cylinder. The wiper sits outside and strips dust, sand and paint off the rod before they reach the cuff lip. Without it a new cuff is cut within a season.
Check the rod and guide before replacement. An axial score, corrosion or play prevents a new lip from running evenly, so even a correctly selected set starts passing oil quickly.
NBR is recommended for cylinder oil. If sand hits the rod, the wiper lip is better in polyurethane: ordinary rubber is eaten by abrasion. Polyurethane is weak in heat, about up to +80 °C. Next to hotter oil the cuff stays NBR or FKM, and the wiper is specified separately.
For a quote we need rod diameter, groove outside diameter and the height of both parts. Send the wiper and the cuff as a pair: ordered apart, they often do not fit one assembly.
