Rod and Piston Cuffs: Differences and What to Send for a Quote

Article

A cylinder has two circuits. The rod seal runs on the chrome rod and keeps oil in. The piston seal sits in the piston groove and splits the two chambers.

They are not interchangeable: different groove, gap and lip. A look-alike part often cuts on the chamfer or extrudes under pressure.

Rod seal: rod diameter, gland bore, groove height, and whether a wiper is present. A wiper is not a pressure seal.

Piston seal: bore, piston diameter, groove width and clearance. High pressure needs a backup ring.

Duty: mobile hydraulics often NBR Shore A 80–90. Hot or synthetic oil may need FKM. Water systems need a water-capable mix.

Scored chrome or an oval bore will leak with any new seal. Sometimes a repaired rod is cheaper than endless rubber changes.

Send cylinder or groove drawings, or the part; pressure; fluid; temperature. A photo with a scale speeds the quote.

We mould cuffs from sample or drawing in Tashkent. After approval, typically 3–5 business days; a new mold about 10–14 days.
