Food-grade silicone: gaskets, lids, fillers

Article

Food-grade silicone is used where a seal touches the product or passes sterilisation cycles. Technical water or washdown without product contact often needs only EPDM.

Silicone is recommended for lids, fillers, molds and gaskets that touch the product, about −60…+250 °C. It is not recommended for drive oil, a hydraulic cylinder or abrasion: that is NBR or polyurethane.

A food-duty request agrees more than the polymer. State which surface touches the product, whether batch documentation is required, the part colour and cleaning cycle. That prevents a food-grade material being replaced with a merely similar technical rubber.

Line steam and washdown are often EPDM if the gasket does not touch the product. Silicone on every water flange costs more and does not help the medium.

The request needs a drawing or sample, what actually touches the product, wash temperature, and whether contact is repeated. A lid is softer than a clamped flange.

We make rings and gaskets in Tashkent. These are small parts, not a mold for a whole kettle. After approval, usually 3–5 business days. +998 90 944 99 40.
