Rubber sheet: thickness and cutting

Article

Technical rubber sheet is the blank for gaskets, pads and cut parts. The grade and thickness must match the medium, load and clamping method.

For oil and gasoline an oil-resistant sheet is recommended — MBS, NBR-based, about up to +120 °C. For water, mild solutions and outdoors — a weather sheet, TMKSh, closer to EPDM logic, about +80…+100 °C for a common sheet. Hot oil and gas are not covered by a general-purpose sheet: that is a molded FKM gasket.

A sheet is selected by more than thickness. Hardness, fabric reinforcement, cutting accuracy and edge shape matter. An equipment pad, flange gasket and wear strip work under different conditions.

Thickness of 2, 3, 4 and 5 mm is not interchangeable on a tightened flange. Thinner will not compress into a seal, thicker will not let the studs close. We cut to drawing, DXF or sample.

A sheet is a blank and the gaskets cut from it. It is not a lining for a large drum and not a large molded plate. One gasket is cut from sheet. Dozens of identical ones with holes are worth a mold.
