Rubber Bushings: Rubber, Polyurethane or Rubber-Metal

Article

A bushing takes radial and axial movement, damps impact and keeps alignment. The compound matters more than colour. Three working types: rubber, polyurethane and rubber-metal.

Rubber (NBR, NR, EPDM) damps well and is economical in series, but wears faster in abrasion and sunlight. Use it for moderate loads and vibration mounts.

Polyurethane resists tear and sand better. It is stiffer: less isolation, more life on mining and farm equipment. Too hard a grade transmits shock into the pin.

Rubber-metal: rubber bonded to a metal sleeve when the housing fit must be rigid and damping stays in the elastomer. Typical on suspension arms and gearbox mounts.

Fit: ID, OD, height and collar decide axial walk. On a worn sample we also check ovality of the metal.

Medium: oils — NBR; weather and water — EPDM; quarry dust — PU; hot engine bays need a temperature margin.

We make bushings from sample, including re-bonding. If the sleeve is still sound, re-rubberising may be enough.

Send the sample or dimensions, a photo of the joint and the load type. Standard batch: 3–5 business days after approval.
