Seals for Power Plants, Pump Stations and Steam Lines

Article

Power sites combine water, steam, oil and water-treatment chemicals. One universal rubber fails: a steam mix dies in turbine oil and the reverse.

Steam and hot water usually need EPDM or steam-rated sheets, sometimes fabric-reinforced. NBR hardens on superheated steam. Thickness follows the flange and pressure.

Turbine and pump oil systems return to NBR or FKM by oil temperature. Shaft speed still governs the oil seal.

Irrigation and circulating pumps: water, solids, mild chemicals — EPDM with swell checked. Dirty water needs a lip and dirt control, not a food-grade colour.

Steam flanges need a drawing or rubbing, pressure and temperature. Sheet cutting covers many static joints; odd profiles are moulded.

Stations often require a compound certificate and a dimensional report — ask for it in the first message.

After approval, standard cut and moulded items are typically 3–5 business days. New tooling for a non-standard flange is separate.
