What is a Rubber Mold and Why You Need One

Article

If you're ordering a custom rubber product, you'll need a mold. Here's a simple explanation.

A mold is a steel or aluminum 'form' into which hot rubber is pressed under pressure. After cooling, you get a finished product of the right shape and size.

Analogy: a rubber mold is like a baking mold. Make the mold once — produce as many identical products as needed.

When a mold is NOT needed: standard rings, sheet gaskets, cords, technical plates — these are made without molds (die-cutting, extrusion, machining).

When a mold IS needed: non-standard shape, complex profile, multi-component parts (rubber + metal), serial production of identical items.

Cost: simple single-cavity mold from 500,000 UZS. Complex multi-cavity up to 5,000,000 UZS. Paid once, stored indefinitely.

Payback: from 50 pieces the mold cost spreads to a few percent per item. At 500+ pieces it barely affects the price.

REZINA.UZ designs molds on own equipment. Typical new tooling is 10–14 business days, not three days for everything. WhatsApp / +998 90 944 99 40.

A mold is needed when the section cannot be held by cutting or when the lip must be formed. Flat sheet gaskets often skip new tooling.

Tooling for a single part is usually uneconomic. First we check existing tools and whether sheet cutting works.

Shrink is built into the cavity. The part drawing and the tool drawing are different documents.

Tool lead time and batch lead time are separate: tooling about 10–14 days, then typically 3–5 business days after sign-off.
